Our beautiful new illustration and art prints by Kate Thornton Design

I’m so happy to share below the beautiful illustration we commissioned from local Huddersfield artist Kate Thornton Design as the theme for our 2023-24 live music series! Thanks to the funding support from Arts Council England I was able to include this commission in the overall project, and we will be using the illustration in the posters and promotion for this year’s programme. I love Kate’s work which is often based around vintage maps and silhouettes of birds, animals and plants. I had a clear idea of how our bespoke design could adapt this concept to include acoustic instruments, and I absolutely love the finished result! It was important to me to engage an independent artist to do this, in line with our championing of grassroots music, and to reflect the local places that we’re bringing this world class live music to.

As well as using this illustration on True North Music’s posters, banners and social media, I thought it would be a lovely idea to produce some high quality prints of it – I certainly want one for my wall! Kate will get the prints produced for us through her normal supplier, and we plan to sell them at our concerts this year. Any profit made will be split between the artist Kate Thornton and True North Music (with our share ploughed back into the music series budget). These will be digital prints, supplied in an A3 Soft White mount with an A4 aperture (image size A4, overall size A3). We intend to price them at £22 and they will only be available for sale at True North Music events. I’ve set up a VERY short Google Docs poll here to gauge interest, so that we can get an initial quantity printed to bring to the Allison de Groot & Tatiana Hargreaves concert and workshop on 20th May. Please do fill it in to indicate whether you might be interested in buying one! No obligation, this is just to help us with print quantities.

I hope to see lots of you in May at those first events of the series – and we have more exciting announcements to come over the coming weeks and months! Do sign up to our mailing list on the right hand side of our Yorkshire gigs page to be among the first to hear about upcoming gigs, or follow us on social media – you can find all our links here

We would like to acknowledge again the valuable and much appreciated funding support from Arts Council England, and also thank our series sponsor Dark Woods Coffee for their financial contribution as well as their enthusiastic support for our work.
