Our friends The Kentucky Cow Tippers are launching their much anticipated new Northgrass EP this week. If you’re not familiar with the band, don’t be put off by the daft moniker. This Newcastle/Leeds based quintet is a fine set of young musicians who have been honing their musical chops since forming in 2008 (they are still only in their early 20s!). They’re big favourites on the bluegrass scene in the UK and delivered some particularly mature and crowd pleasing festival performances during the summer of 2015.
The new EP features all-original material showcasing the band’s impressive songwriting skills, and in their live sets they include a great mix of bluegrass standards and creatively interpreted covers amongst the original songs. One of their great assets is that four of the five are talented singers as well as excellent instrumentalists, leading to a nice line in vocal harmonies as well as changing up lead singer duties.
After the first launch gig at The Cluny in Newcastle yesterday, they’ll also be playing live at a second launch event at LS6 – The Clock Café in Leeds tomorrow (Tuesday 1st December). Entry is just £5 and the new CD is available to buy for £5, so come on out and support these excellent young musicians!
