Growling Old Men, Sheffield, Good Friday

Coming up this Friday! The fabulous Growling Old Men will be visiting Sheffield to play an intimate gig at the Harland Café. John Lowell (guitar/vocals) and Ben Winship (mandolin/vocals) hail from way out west – Montana and Idaho to be precise – and will be joined by London bluegrass whizz Ben Somers on double bass and vocals. The Men will be bringing us their particular blend of music which mixes bluegrass, Americana, folk, swing, traditional and original songs. With lovely harmonies and superb picking to the forefront, these guys are the real deal, evoking the spirit of the western plains as well as the hills of Appalachia.

The guys will also be teaching a bluegrass music and harmony singing workshop (4-6pm). This will be next door at Harland Works. All three of our musicians have taught at numerous music courses before and John and Ben W are in the UK primarily to tutor at the highly respected week-long Sore Fingers bluegrass camp the following week, so this is a rare opportunity to learn from some of the best musicians and teachers in the bluegrass community.

Advance tickets are just £10 each for the workshop, £10 for the concert – or just £18 for both – ticket link here. (10% booking fee applies). Please note there are only a handful of tickets left for the evening concert (which will start at 8pm), so do book now if you want to join us! There will also be an informal bluegrass jam session from about 6:30pm, and tasty home cooked food available from our lovely hosts at the Harland Cafe. It’s going to be a great way to kick off the Easter weekend.
