Newberry & Verch

Tuesday 11th February 2020

The Greystones, Sheffield

A triumphant return to Sheffield for Joe and April with a good turnout on another cold and wet February night. As usual we had a hugely appreciative Sheffield audience who were in good voice and demanded two encores! Thanks to everyone who came out!

Joe Newberry & April Verch are both outstanding musicians, and their American/Canadian duo collaboration is fuelled by a shared passion for traditional music. With joyful fiddle tunes, poignant original and traditional songs and April’s spectacular step dancing, Newberry and Verch’s hugely entertaining live show blends folk, bluegrass and old time Americana. These two hugely talented musicians came together several years ago for this very special duo project, releasing their debut album in 2017, and now tour together regularly worldwide. Their voices blend in harmony, their musicianship is unsurpassed, and the addition of April’s spectacular step dancing takes their live performances to another level! Newberry & Verch

Saturday 8th February 2020

The Carlile Institute, Meltham, Huddersfield

On a stormy, wintry February night, a completely sold out room at the Carlile was entranced by the consummate musicianship and charisma of April Verch and Joe Newberry. The audience absolutely loved them and were on their feet at the end, demanding a second encore! With a support set from my own duo Phrase & Fable  it was a memorable night for me. Thanks to everyone who supported the gig!

With joyful fiddle tunes, poignant original and traditional songs and April’s spectacular step dancing, Newberry and Verch’s hugely entertaining live show blends folk, bluegrass and old time Americana. Born in Missouri and a longtime resident of North Carolina, Joe Newberry is a top notch banjoist, guitarist, singer and songwriter, a charismatic performer who charms audiences wherever he goes. He was a guest star on 2016’s popular Transatlantic Sessions live tour and his award-winning songs have been recorded by artists including Ricky Skaggs and the Gibson Brothers. Joe’s other projects include his duo with mandolin legend Mike Compton. April Verch is a world class fiddle player, step dancer and singer from Canada’s Ottawa Valley, who started step dancing at age three and playing the fiddle at age six! April has countless awards, ten albums and twenty years of touring around the world under her belt with her trio the April Verch Band. We’ve booked the entire Newberry & Verch tour, including a major festival performance at Celtic Connections, so we are thrilled to be able to bring this incredible duo to our local venue in Meltham.
