Original & traditional folk & old time music
UK tour Oct/Nov 2016
Hen’s Teeth is a duo featuring Jane Rothfield & Nathan Bontrager, two powerhouse and inventive American roots musicians who specialise in old time Appalachian music. They first met at the legendary Clifftop festival in West Virginia, where they spent hours exploring cello, fiddle, banjo and guitar combinations as the musical sparks flew! Jane Rothfield is an outstanding fiddle & clawhammer banjo player and experienced workshop teacher. She’s very well known in the US old time community and has collaborated with many different artists on the old time, bluegrass and folk scenes. Janie performs in numerous bands and duos including contra dance band Coracree, a duo with her husband, Aberdeen born traditional singer and guitarist Allan Carr, and this new duo with Nathan Bontrager. Nathan is a gifted cello player who also plays fiddle and banjo. Originally from Connecticut, he’s currently studying for a Masters in Baroque Cello in Essen, Germany and his musical adventures include contemporary cello and early music as well traditional old time Americana. He also performs with USA/UK old time collective Root and Branch.
Hen’s Teeth play music that includes both traditional and original songs and tunes, and both Janie and Nathan can sing lead and harmony. They are both experienced music tutors and interested in delivering music workshops (fiddle, banjo, cello, guitar) as well as performing concerts, during their autumn 2016 tour of the UK.
