I’m delighted to be hosting Hen’s Teeth (Jane Rothfield and Nathan Bontrager) for a workshop and concert in Honley on Saturday 29th October. This American duo makes dynamic new music that’s firmly rooted in tradition, and with fiddle, cello, banjo and guitar in the mix, the musical combinations are practically limitless! Fiddle and clawhammer banjo phenomenon Jane Rothfield has been playing traditional folk music in a myriad of styles for over 30 years and has performed all over the world. A talented and experienced music teacher, she’s also the director of her own series of fiddle workshops in the USA, Janie’s Jumpstart Music Camps. Nathan Bontrager is a unique and versatile musician, a top-notch cellist and a talented old time fiddler, clawhammer banjo and guitar player. Currently based in Germany, Nathan is also an experienced music tutor.
Hen’s Teeth will bring their fresh take on old-time Appalachian music to Honley this October, for an intimate concert at Hope Bank Works. They will also lead an afternoon of old-time music workshops before the evening concert, with the assistance of local folk music legend Gina Le Faux. Gina is a phenomenal multi-instrumentalist on mandolin, fiddle, guitar and more – and she’s also a great teacher. Gina will join Jane and Nathan in teaching afternoon workshops on fiddle, mandolin and clawhammer banjo (and possibly cello, based on demand). We’ll start off with separate classes to learn a couple of traditional old time tunes on the different instruments, then all come together “string band style”, to play the tunes and learn a bit more about playing together with other musicians.
Advance tickets available at the venue and online at Wegottickets.com (note 10% booking fee applies online).
