We’re just recovering from a fantastic night in Huddersfield last night, where we hosted the superb bluegrass/jazz/contemporary acoustic trio Gordy/Somers/Walsh. The guys were truly fabulous and were much appreciated by a good sized audience in the Syngenta Cellar bar at the Lawrence Batley Theatre. I’d worked really hard to put the word out locally about this concert and there were a fair few locals in the house as well as familiar faces who had travelled from Leeds, Bradford, Cheshire and even Newcastle to join us. Those folks are aficionados of this kind of music and fans of Grant Gordy, Ben Somers and Joe Walsh. They knew just what a treat we were in for, and the guys didn’t disappoint.
They delivered two sets jam-packed with a blend of blistering licks, mellow sounds and sweet vocals, ranging from straight ahead bluegrass standards to monumental jazz jams and some really lovely songs. I was particularly struck by a couple of Joe Walsh’s original compositions, but the whole band contributed impressive song and tune writing as well as knockout interpretations of other stuff. One of the major strengths of this collective is the top-notch quality and multiple talents of all three members.
Video clips coming soon. Thanks to all who turned out for this gig & please check out our next event, which will be Rayna Gellert at Hepworth Village Hall on Fri 5th June.
