I’m absolutely delighted to announce a concert by Michael Daves, one of the most acclaimed guitarists and singers working in bluegrass today. A hugely entertaining, high energy performer, he combines a love of traditional material with a fearless, original style and jaw-dropping virtuosity. Michael received a Grammy nomination for his duo album with mandolin genius Chris Thile, and has performed and collaborated with dozens of renowned names in American roots music, including Billy Strings, Bruce Molsky, Brittany Haas, Tony Trischka, Aoife O’Donovan and many more. Originally from the state of Georgia, where he grew up steeped in traditional music, Michael has been a keystone of the thriving bluegrass and Americana scene in New York City over the past 20 years, performing a long running residency at legendary folk venue Rockwood Music Hall, and collaborating with countless roots music luminaries passing through. Michael’s current duo project with mandolin phenomenon Jacob Jolliff has performed at numerous major festivals across the USA, Canada, Australia, UK and Europe. Michael is also part of the all-star line-up for Tony Trischka’s Earl Jam project, which received a 2025 Grammy nomination.

This event is a co-promotion with our friends over at Dark Woods Coffee and Red Deer Club. Dark Woods Coffee is a coffee roastery business based in a characterful old mill building close to the Huddersfield Narrow Canal between Marsden and Slaithwaite. In addition to producing their award-winning coffees, they’re involved in all sorts of good stuff, including hosting their own regular pop-up café open days and occasional Red Deer Club concerts. They run on ethical principles in their dealings with suppliers and in their mission to support community causes close to home. The company contributed sponsorship support to our 2023-24 local live music series (thanks again guys!) and their Community Small Grants Programme has provided funding to many local charities and groups. We’re very pleased to be running this event together, in their beautiful intimate space. This is set to be a fun and fabulous evening of American roots music. My duo Phrase & Fable will play a short opening set of songs, and there will be a bar provided by the neighbouring Zapato Brewery Tap. Come on out and join us!

Tickets £15 adv. (£10 for under 23s).
