Small Town Therapy

Now booking for November 2020

Searingly accomplished contemporary acoustic music from two consummate musicians

Small Town Therapy is a sensationally talented acoustic duo formed by virtuosic American instrumentalists Leif Karlstrom (violin and mandolin) and Adam Roszkiewicz (mandolin and guitar). Leif and Adam are also members of the roots-pop band Front Country and the  Grammy nominated Modern Mandolin Quartet. In this duo project, they concentrate on original instrumental string music that allows for virtuosic improvisation. Progressive bluegrass and roots music has always had much in common with innovation in jazz, classical and contemporary music, and Leif and Adam are both hugely admired among their peers. While remaining in demand for various roots music projects, they’ve been taking a distinctly different, innovative musical journey with Small Town Therapy.

“Vibe and drive…..there is an ethereal brush that the violin lines paint…that push, that forceful drive and build. The feeling of anticipation within the song is palpable. It makes you feel things…there is soul in the weaving violin trails. Just listen yourself and be moved.” Red Line Roots

Both musicians have performed at festivals and venues around the world for many years, including the USA’s Rockygrass and Merlefest, La Roche Bluegrass festival in France and the Blue Highways festival in Holland. Small Town Therapy’s self-titled debut (2014) was produced by master mandolinist Matt Flinner and their second album Dreams and Circumstances was released on Organic Records in 2019.   Described as “a cerebral blend of bluegrass, jazz, and classical influenced original compositions” it features a number SmallTownTherapy_Press photoof renowned guest musicians from the US acoustic scene – Lyndsay Pruett and John Mailander on violin, Eli West on guitar, and Ethan Jodziewicz on bass.

In addition to his acclaimed music career, Leif Karlstrom is also a professor of volcanology at the University of Oregon. He recently created the Volcano Listening Project, compiling sonic data from Mount Kilauea in Hawaii and creating a musical soundscape – the first instalment of which made it on to Small Town Therapy’s latest album as the track Hotel Kilauea. Small Town Therapy’s enormous creativity, peerless musicianship and highly original compositions make this duo a very special musical force, and we’re delighted to be booking their first ever UK duo tour.
